The NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) has been replaced by the NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (GIC) as part of NEBOSH’s efforts to modernise and streamline its qualifications. The new GIC reflects updated industry standards and best practices, ensuring that learners gain relevant, practical knowledge aligned with current global health and safety requirements. This change also simplifies the qualification structure, making it easier for candidates to understand and employers to recognise.
The transition from IGC to GIC means that the syllabus has been refreshed to focus on risk management principles, practical application, and leadership in health and safety. While the core objectives remain similar, providing a strong foundation in occupational health and safety, the GIC introduces a more contemporary approach, including scenario-based assessments and real-world case studies. This ensures that learners are better prepared to apply their knowledge effectively in diverse workplace environments.
